Auguste Beernaert was a Belgian statesman, lawyer, and pacifist who served as prime minister, finance minister, and president of the Chamber of Representatives. He also played a key role in international arbitration and codification of law, and received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1909 for his contributions to peace and disarmament.
