He argues that Federzoni was a realist who favored Italy's traditional role as a subsidiary Power of Britain in the Mediterranean and opposed Mussolini's alliance with Nazi Germany.

He was founder of the Nationalist Party and a leading member of the Fascist Party. He served as Fascism’s first colonial minister from 1922 to 1924 and from 1926 to 1928.

Es folgten Gabriele D’Annunzio (1937–1938) und Luigi Federzoni (1938–1943) als Präsidenten. Gemeinsam mit dem 1925 gegründeten Istituto dell’Enciclopedia Italiana bildete die Akademie spätestens ab Mitte der 1930er Jahre ein System zur kulturellen Konditionierung der italienischen Gesellschaft im Sinne des Faschismus .
Dal 1897 collaborò al settimanale degli universitari bolognesi, Il Tesoro, tra il 1898 e il 1899 alla rivista umoristico-letteraria, Bologna che dorme, quindi ad altri periodici come L'Italia che ride, Rivista ligure, Gazzetta dell'Emilia.
