Born in Budapest as Maria Antonie Gabriele Koháry de Csábrág et Szitnya. She was the only survivng child of Ferenc József Koháry and his wife Antonia Gräfin von Waldstein zu Wartenberg. She was heir of the House Koháry and is considered the progenitrix of the house Linie Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha-Koháry.

Die Koháry waren ein ungarisches katholisches, zuletzt gefürstetes Adelsgeschlecht. Durch die Heirat von Ferdinand Georg von Sachsen-Coburg-Saalfeld mit Prinzessin Maria Antonie Gabriele von Koháry ging es im Haus Sachsen-Coburg-Koháry auf.
