James Earp. James Cooksey Earp (June 28, 1841 – January 25, 1926) was a lesser known older brother of Old West lawman Virgil Earp and lawman/gambler Wyatt Earp. Unlike his brothers, he was a saloon-keeper and was not present at the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral on October 26, 1881.
James Earp was different from his gun-slinging lawmen brothers. James worked as a saloon-keeper after his sting in the Union Army at the beginning of the Civil War. He was part of Company F, 17th Illinois Infantry, in May 1861. Like most of his siblings, he bounced around from town to town regularly.
Auch Morgan Earp, immerhin auch zeitweise Deputy US-Marshal und mehrfach Polizist in wilden Frontier-Städten, ist weitaus weniger bekannt. Aber wer kennt JAMES C. EARP? Er wurde am 28. Juni 1841 – vor 179 Jahren – geboren. Er war der älteste Bruder von Wyatt Earp.
