Biography. Barthélemy Dumortier was a son of the merchant and city councillor Barthélemy-François Dumortier and of Mariue-Jeanne Willaumez.
Le comte Barthélemy Charles Joseph Dumortier (parfois Du Mortier [1]), né le 3 avril 1797 à Tournai et mort le 9 juillet 1878 (à 81 ans) dans cette même ville, est un homme politique belge et, parallèlement, un botaniste. Membre de la Chambre des représentants dès la création de la Belgique, il sera ministre d'État.
