Ecgfrith (/ ˈ ɛ dʒ f r ɪ ð /; Old English: Ecgfrið [ˈedʒfrið]; c. 645 – 20 May 685) was the King of Deira from 664 until 670, and then King of Northumbria from 670 until his death in 20 May 685 possibly at age of 31.
Ecgfrith was king of Mercia from 29 July to December 796. He was the son of Offa, one of the most powerful kings of Mercia, and Cynethryth, his wife. In 787, Ecgfrith was consecrated king, the first known consecration of an English king, probably arranged by Offa in imitation of the consecration of Charlemagne's sons by the pope in 781.

Ecgfrith († Dezember 796, auch Egfrid von Mercien) war ein König des angelsächsischen Königreichs Mercia. Als Sohn Offas und Cynethryths wurde er 787 zum Mitregenten seines Vaters erhoben und folgte ihm im Juli 796 auf den Thron.

Ecgfrith (or Egfrith; c. 646 AD –685 AD) was the King of Deira from 664 AD until 670 AD . When his father died he became King of Northumbria from 670 AD until his death. Ecgfrith ruled Northumbria when it was at the height of its power. His reign ended with his defeat at the Battle of Nechtansmere in which he died.
