Harold Davenport worked on number theory, in particular the geometry of numbers, Diophantine approximation and the analytic theory of numbers. He wrote a number of important textbooks and monographs including The higher arithmetic (1952).
Although it was in print for a short time only, the original edition of Multiplicative Number Theory had a major impact on research and on young mathematicians.
