Frank Albert Cotton FRS (April 9, 1930 – February 20, 2007) was an American chemist. He was the W.T. Doherty-Welch Foundation Chair and Distinguished Professor of Chemistry at Texas A&M University .

Cotton was a world-renowned researcher and educator, and one of a small number of scientists credited with the renaissance of inorganic chemistry that began in the 1950s. His work led to a new appreciation for the diverse structural, bonding, and reactivity properties of transition-metal complexes.
