Nathan Jacobson (October 5, 1910 – December 5, 1999) was an American mathematician. [1] Biography. Born Nachman Arbiser [2] in Warsaw, Jacobson emigrated to America with his family in 1918. He graduated from the University of Alabama in 1930 and was awarded a doctorate in mathematics from Princeton University in 1934.
Nathan Jacobson (* 5. Oktober 1910 in Warschau; † 5. Dezember 1999 in Hamden, Connecticut) war ein US-amerikanischer Mathematiker, der sich mit Algebra beschäftigte.
5. Dez. 1999 · Jacobson discovered a deep structure theory for rings and has given his name to the Jacobson radical, the intersection of the maximal ideals of a ring. He also made very substantial contributions to nonassociative algebras, in particular Lie algebras and Jordan algebras.
Nathan Jacobson, who died on 5 December 1999, was an outstanding algebraist, whose work on almost all aspects of algebra was of fundamental importance, and whose writings will exercise a lasting influence. He had been an honorary member of the Society since 1972.

Nathan Jacobson was one of the most influential alge-braists of the twentieth century. For his fundamental contributions to the theories of Lie and Jordan algebras and to the study of associative algebras satisfying polyno-mial identities, he was elected a member of the National Academy of Sciences in 1954.
