Big Chef Takes on Little Chef is a four-part British television series that broadcast on Channel 4 in early 2009, where Heston Blumenthal attempted to regenerate Little Chef.
The Little Chef roadside-diner style restaurant chain was founded in the 1950s, and by the 2000s reached a peak of 439 locations across the UK. By 2005 however, the chain would lose half of its locations, mainly due to an increase in popularity of fast-food. In January 2007, Little Chef is rescued out of administration by RCapital. One of the tasks RCapital undertakes is bringing in celebrity chef to Heston Blumenthal to revamp the menu offering.
Popham restaurant manager Michael worked for Happy Eater/Little Chef for 25 years at the filming of the series, his real-life restaurant was two hours away from Popham, however he was selected to move to Popham just for filming due to his loyalty to the brand. A lot of the series is based around Michael's commentary, as well as Heston's.

The Heston Blumenthal project wasn't a massive success, however the publicity generated may have helped the Little Chef brand remain afloat for longer than had it not have happened. After the episode is filmed, Little Chef would refurbish four more restaurants in the Heston style in 2009. In 2011, it would refurbish ten more restaurants. However, it would end here and the Heston menu would be scrapped by June 2013.
In 2012, Little Chef announced a closure of 67 restaurants, as well as that it would outsource its head office and public relations. RCapital would sell the remaining 78 Little Chefs to Kout Food Group in 2013, and Kout Food Group would sell the 70 Little Chefs in turn to Euro Garages in 2017, who would phase out the Little Chef chain by October 2018.
