Die Witwatersrand-Universität (englisch: University of the Witwatersrand), kurz Wits, ist eine südafrikanische Universität mit Sitz in Johannesburg in der Provinz Gauteng. Die Wits entstand aus der South African School of Mines, die 1896 eröffnet wurde. 1922 wurde ihr der Universitätsstatus verliehen und der heutige Name eingeführt.
The University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg ( / vətˈvɑːtəsrɑːnt / ), commonly known as Wits University or Wits, is a multi-campus public research university situated in the northern areas of central Johannesburg, South Africa. The university has its roots in the mining industry, as do Johannesburg and the Witwatersrand in general.
