She was born Sonia Landau in 1914 to a Jewish family in Lódz, Poland, and was studying law at Warsaw University when World War II erupted.
Krystyna Zywulska was a Polish-Jewish writer who survived Auschwitz and hid her identity after the war. She wrote autobiographical novels, satirical pieces, and children's books, and lived in Poland and West Germany.
