1. Dez. 2006 · Abu Yusuf Ya‘qub ibn Ishaq Al-Kindi (ca. 800–870 CE) was the first self-identified philosopher in the Arabic tradition. He worked with a group of translators who rendered works of Aristotle, the Neoplatonists, and Greek mathematicians and scientists into Arabic.
al-Kindī (died c. 870) was the first outstanding Islamic philosopher, known as “the philosopher of the Arabs.” Al-Kindī was born of noble Arabic descent and flourished in Iraq under the Abbasid caliphs al-Maʾmūn (813–833) and al-Muʿtaṣim (833–842).
