Philip Arthur Larkin war ein englischer Dichter, Autor und Jazzkritiker. Er arbeitete als Bibliothekar an der Universität Hull. Larkin gilt als einer der bedeutendsten englischen Dichter des 20. Jahrhunderts.
Philip Arthur Larkin CH CBE FRSL (9 August 1922 – 2 December 1985) was an English poet, novelist, and librarian. His first book of poetry, The North Ship, was published in 1945, followed by two novels, Jill (1946) and A Girl in Winter (1947).
He was one of post-war England’s most famous poets, and was commonly referred to as “England’s other Poet Laureate” until his death in 1985. Indeed, when the position of laureate became vacant in 1984, many poets and critics favored Larkin’s appointment, but Larkin preferred to avoid the limelight.
