Alan John Bayard Wace FBA FSA (13 July 1879 – 9 November 1957) was an English archaeologist, who served as director of the British School at Athens (BSA) between 1914 and 1923. [a] He excavated widely in Thessaly, Laconia and Egypt and at the Bronze Age site of Mycenae in Greece.

A collection of notebooks, drawings, plans and photographs by English archaeologist Alan Wace, who conducted numerous field projects in Greece in the 20th century, has been digitally assembled by the University of Cambridge and the British School of Athens and made available to the public.

The collection of Alan John Bayard Wace papers held in the archives of the Faculty of Classics, University of Cambridge, contains a number of notebooks the perfect size for an Edwardian man’s capacious jacket pocket. They accompanied Wace during the Spring of 1910, on his excavations in Thessaly at the tells of Tsangli and Rachmani.
Scope and Contents. The papers consist of 9 small field notebooks belonging to Wace dating from the early 1900s, papers relating to his academic career, and copies of some of his publications, principally offprints from journals.
