Théophile Gautier est l'auteur de 5 ballets du répertoire romantique, dont le premier chronologiquement, demeure l'un des plus joués au monde : Giselle ou Les Wilis. Par contre, son théâtre est une partie mineure de son œuvre. Une larme du diable, mystère (1839).
