John Lee Farris wurde 1936 in Jefferson City, Missouri geboren. Er wuchs in Tennessee auf und studierte an der Southwestern University in Memphis. Er begann früh mit dem Schreiben, zunächst mit Kriminalromanen und wechselte später ins Horror-Genre. Neben Romanen schreibt er Drehbücher, unter anderem zu seinen eigenen Büchern.
