Pantheon Books is an American book publishing imprint with editorial independence. It is part of the Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group. Dan Frank was Editorial Director from 1996 until his death in May 2021. Lisa Lucas joined the imprint in 2020 as Senior Vice President and Publisher.

Pantheon Books mainly published English translations of German and French literature from the 20th century. They also published many classical authors, as well as bilingual editions. Schiffrin died in 1950. In 1960, Kurt and Helen Wolff left Pantheon and joined Harcourt-Brace. Schiffrin's son Andre Schiffrin was then hired as executive editor.

Pantheon’s founder, Kurt Wolff, was born in Germany in 1887. He emigrated to the United States in 1941 and began publishing major works in translation. Today its authors include, Julia Glass, James Gleick, Ha Jin, Anne Morrow Lindbergh, Alexander McCall Smith, and graphic novelists Marjane Satrapi and Art Spiegelman. Read more
