Jeffrey R. Hanna (born July 11, 1947) is an American singer-songwriter and performance musician, best known for his association with the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. His professional music career has spanned six decades.
The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band was founded around 1966 in Long Beach, California, United States, by singer-guitarist Jeff Hanna and singer-songwriter-guitarist Bruce Kunkel, who had performed as the New Coast Two and later the Illegitimate Jug Band.
The Hanna men sing “She Belongs to Me,” from Bringing It All Back Home, Dylan’s surrealist step forward from 1965. And the Dirt Band follows that with “Forever Young,” an unattainable prayer set to one of Dylan’s rare soaring choruses. Jeff, Jaime, and Carpenter each sing lead on different verses of this classic.
