The first season of Drag Race Germany was first teased on August 8, 2022 when World of Wonder published a casting call for German drag artists via social media accounts. Casting opened on August 8, 2022, with deadline of August 26 of that same year. Applicants were asked to submit an audition tape on August 31, with deadline of September 23, 2022.
On December 12, 2022, the series was confirmed, along with the announcement that it would air on Paramount+ in Germany. The series also exclusively airs in the streaming service in Austria and Switzerland.
The series official title and logo were unveiled on August 1, 2023, along with a premiere date of September 5.
On August 10, 2023, Barbie Breakout and Gianni Jovanovic were announced as the series' co-hosts. Dianne Brill was revealed as a judge the following day.
One August 15, 2023, the cast of Season 1 was officially announced. The promo theme was "Break Free".
At the end of the twelfth episode, Pandora Nox was crowned Germany's First Drag Superstar, with Metamorkid and Yvonne Nightstand placing as Runners-Up. Victoria Shakespears won the title of Miss Darling at the reunion, while LéLé Cocoon was awarded the title of Fan Favorite on Instagram after the show.

•In 2013, a version of Drag Race Germany was announced by RuPaul. However, it was cancelled.
•This is the second season in the franchise (following Drag Race Thailand) to have an episode with two separate winners, one for the challenge and one for the runway.
•Similarly, ChelseaBoy from Drag Race Holland (Season 1) was deemed the winner of the maxi-challenge, but did not win the challenge.
•After Tessa Testicle and Victoria Shakespears both won the first lip sync in the first episode, at least one of them would be a part of the lip sync for the following six episodes.
