  1. Chi-Sound Records is an independent record label set up in 1976 by established Chicago record producer Carl Davis. He had been involved in the music industry since the early 1960s working with locally based record labels, including Vee-Jay and Okeh, a subsidiary of the major Columbia Records.

  5. Chi-Sound records was originally established back in the early 70's by the legendary producer Carl Davis. Carl produced such artists as Gene Chandler, Mary Wells, Walter Jackson, Major Lance, Jackie Wilson, the Chi-Lites, Kenneth (Baby Face) Edmond, and the Dell's.

The company reverted to 20th Century-Fox Records with a new label design featuring the movie studio's logo and launched a new distribution deal for Carl Davis ' Chi Sound Records in 1978 after leaving their deal with United Artists Records. In 1979, RCA Records took over distribution of the label.

  7. 10. Aug. 2012 · Davis produced 20 top ten albums for The Chi-Lites. Davis developed his knack for picking hits in the mid-fifties, when he created playlists for a popular Chicago radio DJ.
