Situated between bluffs along one of the widest portions of the river, it shares the County Seat with Keokuk, making Lee County the only county in Iowa with two seats of government.

Fort Madison, Iowa (population 11,051) is located along the Mississippi River in the southeast corner of Iowa. Fort Madison is situated between small bluffs and one of the widest portions of the river. It is one of two county seats of Lee County (the other being Keokuk, Iowa). It is the only county in Iowa with two seats of government.
