Cary Anthony Stayner (* 13.
On December 26, 1990, Stayner's paternal uncle, 42-year-old Jesse Jerrold "Jerry" Stayner, was shot to death inside his Merced residence with his own shotgun. The murder was never solved and Cary Stayner, who had lived with his uncle at the time of the shooting, became a suspect after his arrest.
