Littoral ([li.tɔ.ʁal], "Littoral") is one of the twelve departments of Benin. At 79 km 2 (31 sq mi), Littoral is the smallest department in the country. Its capital is Cotonou, Benin's largest city. The department was created in 1999 with the splitting up of territories of Atlantique Department.
Cotonou ist der Hauptort im westafrikanischen Benin und ist ökonomisches Zentrum wie auch Regierungssitz des Landes. Hauptstadt ist aber Porto-Novo, wo das Parlament seinen Sitz hat. Die Stadt bildet das Département Littoral.
Geografie. Benin liegt zwischen 6° 25' und 12° 30' nördlicher Breite sowie 0° 45' und 4° östlicher Länge. Die größte Nord-Süd-Ausdehnung beträgt 650 km, die größte West-Ost-Ausdehnung beträgt 320 km. Die Landesgrenzen belaufen sich auf gesamt 1989 km, zu Burkina Faso 306 km, zu Niger 266 km, zu Nigeria 773 km und zu Togo 644 km. Die Länge der Küste beträgt 121 km.
Der Hafen von Cotonou ( französisch Port de Cotonou) ist ein Seehafen in der beninischen Küstenstadt Cotonou. Er ist der größte Hafen des Landes. Er wird von der Port Autonome de Cotonou betrieben.
