Shanachie Records was founded in 1972 by Richard Nevins and Daniel Michael Collins. According to Harvey Pekar (Secret Museum of Music), it is one of the largest independent record labels in the world, and is currently distributed by E1 Music.
In approximately 1982, their first four albums and some of their solo albums were re-released on the Shanachie Records label. On the Shanachie label, Liam's solo album, Farewell to Tarwaithie was re-titled The Dutchman to capitalize on the song's fame under Makem and Clancy, with a new album cover and track order.
