16. Nov. 2022 · A TRUE HERO. August 7, 1982. The Red Sox were playing an afternoon game at Boston’s Fenway Park. Suddenly a screaming foul ball whizzed past the first base dugout, and Red Sox left fielder Jim Rice heard the unmistakable sound of the ball striking flesh.
During a nationally televised game on August 7, 1982, Rice rushed into the stands to help a young boy who was struck in the head by a line drive off the bat of Dave Stapleton. Rice left the dugout and entered the stands to help four-year-old Jonathan Keane, who was bleeding heavily.
