Bryn Terfel, 1965 als Kind einer walisischen Bauernfamilie geboren, begann mit 24 Jahren in London ein Studium an der Guildhall School of Music an Drama. Im selben Jahr gewann er den Gesangswettbewerb der Cardiff Singer of the World, um dann 1990 sein Operndebüt an der Welsh National Opera zu geben.
