6. Juli 2021 · National Guitars. Chris played several guitars broadly described as manufactured by “National.”. Because some form of National guitar company has been making guitars for almost 100 years, a full review of its history is beyond the scope of this article.

Sept. 2016 · To wit: Whitley cut 1998’s Dirt Floor at his father’s barn in one day, with just his guitar, banjo, voice and trademark “boot stomping.” The high-energy “Ball Peen Hammer” was picked on an Eb-minor-tuned five-string banjo, arranged similarly for six-string acoustic guitar in FIGURE 3 .
31. Aug. 2018 · As his two-piece band laid down a taut rhythm, Whitley wrung hellfire out of a battered Dobro guitar, his voice weeping over the tumult. Right then he sounded like nothing so much as a doomed angel. This was spring 1995 and Chris Whitley was preparing to release his second album, Din Of Ecstasy.
Chris Whitley was a brilliant player who made a near-perfect major-label record like Living With the Law, and could also do the off-the-wall independent stuff he did for the last 15 years of his life. So it’s fitting that this posthumous release combines the feel of both.
