  1. Institute of Performing Arts. The Institute of Performing Arts offers intense professional training to individuals in the departments of Art & Public Policy, Graduate Acting, Dance, Drama, Design for Stage & Film, Graduate Musical Theatre Writing, Performance Studies, and the Collaborative Arts Program.

  2. The Institute also houses five dance studios; six theatres; scene, costume, prop, and welding shops; three design studios; a CAD facility, and the editorial staffs of two performance arts journals.

  3. Founded on August 17, 1965, Tisch is a training ground for artists, scholars of the arts, and filmmakers. The school is divided into three Institutes: Performing Arts, Emerging Media, and Film & Television.

To enter the field of Performance Studies is to proceed with a willingness to forgo strict definitions of art “objects” and “events.” The field encourages engagement with everyday life, performers from a variety of media, things inside and outside cultural institutions, and an expansive sense of the stage to reflect on how performance impacts our sense of the world.
