Gateway Seminary is one of the 10 largest seminaries in the United States. We are a seminary system, consisting of five fully-accredited campuses. Isam B. Hodges Harvey Gilbert's dream of 1859 had begun to live again in Baptist hearts and no one carried that dream more intensely than Isam B. Hodges. While a student at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, Hodges came to the conviction that it was God's will for him to begin a seminary in the West.
Crews paid special tribute to the seminary’s founder, Isam B. Hodges, a native of Viola, Ark., who came to California in 1935 and became pastor of Golden Gate Baptist Church in Oakland in 1937. He founded the seminary in 1944 and served as its president until 1946. Hodges died in 1967 in San Leandro.
