His father emigrated from Poland to Aalborg, where he built De Danske Spritfabrikker, famous for their snaps.
Danish-American Max Henius took the lead in this grand undertaking. The following year, on July 4, 1912, the first Rebild Celebration took place in the Rebild Hills. Back then, it was called “Emigrant Meeting”, but today we call it “Rebild Celebration”, and it is the largest celebration of July 4 outside the US.
