Biography – Press Bio. Maynard Ferguson. Childhood. In 1928 a baby boy, Walter Maynard Ferguson, was born in the general hospital in Montreal, Canada. At age nine, after violin and piano lessons, he spotted a man playing cornet at a church social and said to his father, “Dad, get me one of those.”
