“Wagon Wheel” was first recorded by Bob Dylan as part of the soundtrack for the 1973 film “Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid.” While the song did not gain significant popularity at first, it found new life years later when a bootleg recording of Dylan singing the chorus circulated among musicians.
“Wagon Wheel” is the eleventh track off of Americana string band Old Crow Medicine Show 2004’s self-titled album. Written by Bob Dylan and Ketch Secor from O.C.M.S, the track sold over 1 million certified units in the US, giving it platinum certification, as well as Gold in the US.
It was included on Old Crow Medicine Show's major label debut, O.C.M.S. in 2004 and became their most popular recording and a bluegrass standard. The song was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America in November 2011. Ketcham Secor was just 17 when he wrote this song.
