He also had a solo career and recorded several popular blues songs, including "That's All Right" (now a blues standard), "Chicago Bound", "Walking by Myself" (his sole R&B chart appearance), and "Rock This House". He withdrew from the music industry at the end of the 1950s, but returned to recording and touring in the 1970s.
The song Walking by Myself was written by Jimmy Rogers and was first recorded and released by Jimmy Rogers in 1956. It was covered by Jimmy Witherspoon & Robben Ford, Nine Below Zero, Jamie Aaron Kelley and The Dempseys, The Ford Blues Band and other artists.

1955 verließ Rogers die Band von Waters, um solo zu arbeiten. 1957 erschien Walking by Myself, 1959 dann Rock This House. Danach zog sich Rogers weitestgehend aus der Musikszene zurück, da der Rock ’n’ Roll dem Blues den Rang abgelaufen hatte.
