13. Juni 2018 · The 1920s were roaring when William Langford and his partner Theodore Moreau were tapped in 1927 to design what is now universally regarded as their best course, the Lawsonia Links Course in Green Lake, Wisconsin.
8. Okt. 2018 · That’s evident 65 miles southeast of Lawsonia at West Bend Country Club, a private facility that has become something of a mecca for students of Langford & Moreau. The first nine anyway, which opened in 1930. The more modern back nine, not done by Langford & Moreau, has its own very modern character.
William Langford and Theodore Moreau were trained as engineers. Moreau, a graduate in civil engineering, let Langford handle the lion’s share of the design work. Moreau himself primarily oversaw the construction crew, which during the firm’s heyday, meant keeping tabs on close to eighty laborers.
Standout layouts among some 200 courses, most with Theodore Moreau as shaper, include Lawsonia Links and West Bend in Wisconsin, Wakonda in Iowa, Blythefield in Michigan, Culver in Indiana, and Bryn Mawr, Butterfield, Kankakee Elks, Ruth Lake and Schaumburg in Illinois.
