Early Years
Born to Inna and Wyeth who envisioned a brighter future for their son in Piltover, Ekko grew up watching his parents age beyond their years, toiling for too many hours under dangerous conditions in suffocating factories. They believed, it would all be worth it, if it meant their son could one day rise to the city above. While his parents saw only pollution and crime of Zaun, Ekko recognized the vibrant energy and potential for innovation that thrived amidst the city's chaos. This appreciation for Zaun's resilience and resourcefulness fueled Ekko's youth, leading him to form bonds with the scrappy orphans of Zaun, known as the Lost Children of Zaun. Surrounded by the ingenuity of Zaunites and inspired by their ability to thrive in adverse conditions, Ekko's childhood was marked by wild invention and exploration. From constructing simple machines before he could crawl to embarking on escapades through the labyrinthine streets, Ekko embraced the spirit of his city and its people.
Creation of the Zero Drive
During a solo trek into the rubble of a recently demolished laboratory, Ekko stumbles upon a shard of hextech crystal that would change the course of his life forever. He scrambled to find more pieces, but the encroaching enforcers told him he wasn’t the only one looking. Ekko barely escaped, and returned to his home. Ekko's discovery of the hextech shard set him on a path of experimentation. With relentless determination, he worked to harness the shard's temporal powers, culminating in the creation of the Zero Drive—a device capable of manipulating time in small increments. Despite initial setbacks and the creation of multiple versions of himself due to a temporal distortion, Ekko persevered, refining the Zero Drive and pushing its limits. On his name day, Ekko put the Zero Drive to the test, using it to save a friend from a perilous fall. It showed Ekko the potential of his invention and solidified his role as a protector of his friends and city.
Hero of the Zaunite Youth
As Ekko continued to refine his time-bending abilities, he earned a reputation among the youth of Zaun as a hero capable of defying danger. With each trial and error, the Zero Drive grew more stable, allowing Ekko to protect his friends with increasing precision. Despite the physical toll of repeated use, Ekko embraced his role as the defender of Zaun's youth, inspiring others to challenge the status quo and dream of a better future. Ekko's mastery over time has garnered him attention from the most inventive and formidable figures in both Zaun and Piltover, making him a potential obstacle to their endeavors. Soon Ekko started to be targeted by the worst of them.
Ekko is a short, thin, brown-skinned young man with hazelnut brown eyes. He has white hair fashioned into a mohawk. While originally designed with straight hair, Ekko is sometimes portrayed with textured hair. Typically, his forehead and nose are painted white with the shape of an hourglass.
He usually wears a baggy builder's overalls, with a red scarf with protective glasses on his neck, semi-sewn baggy green pants and black boots.
