Er spielte Studiosessions mit Bob Dylan und Tom Paxton und war maßgeblich an der Gründung von Pioniergruppen des Bluesrock ("The Blues Project") und Jazzrock ("Blood, Sweat & Tears") beteiligt. Seine improvisationsreiche "Super Session" erregte weltweit Aufsehen.
