- Big Ben ist die Glocke! Viele denken, dass mit Big Ben der Uhrenturm des Palace of Westminster gemeint ist. Big Ben ist jedoch die schwerste von fünf Glocken, die sich im berühmten Uhrenturm befinden.
- Ist die schwer! Die Glocke wiegt ganze 13,5 Tonnen. Aufgrund ihrer Größe erhielt sie den Namen „Great Bell“.
- Es war einmal der Clock Tower. Zum diamantenen Thronjubiläum der englischen Königin Elisabeth II. wurde der Clock Tower („Uhrenturm“) 2012 in Elizabeth Tower umbenannt.
- Wieso eigentlich „Big Ben“? Big Ben ist die Kurzform für Big Benjamin („großer Benjamin“) und der Spitzname der Great Bell im Uhrenturm. Der Ursprung des Namens ist nicht klar, es gibt aber zwei Theorien: Zum einen könnte die Glocke nach Sir Benjamin Hall, dem damaligen First Commissioner of Works, benannt sein.
