The Kinlochleven area is home to many protected species, including tawny owls, barn owls, European pine martens, pipistrelle bats and otters. A hybrid wildcat was captured on film in 2018. White-tailed eagles are regularly seen, while stags regularly walk through the village.

#1 - Coire Gabhail (The Lost Valley) Glencoe National Nature Reserve. Length: 3.9 mi. The Lost Valley, or Coire Gabhail, is a hidden valley used as a hiding place for stolen cattle by the MacDonalds of Glen Coe and as a refuge for those who escaped the 1692 Massacre of Glen Coe. The hike can be tough, with steep and often rocky terrain.
