Woolpit ist eine Ortschaft in Suffolk, England. Sie liegt zwischen Bury St. Edmunds und Stowmarket und umfasst ca. 2000 Einwohner. Geschichte. Die Ortschaft wird erstmal urkundlich um 1005 nach Christus als Wlfpeta erwähnt, später, ab ca. 1130, als Vulfputes ( lat. für „Wolfsgrube“).
Woolpit (or in Old English, wulf-pytt) is an ancient village in Suffolk named after – as one might gather from it’s name – an old pit for catching wolves! Jan. 2022 · Die Legende besagt, dass es sich bei den grünen Kindern von Woolpit um einen Jungen und seine Schwester handelte, die von Bauern bei der Feldarbeit zur Erntezeit in der Nähe einiger Gräben gefunden wurden, die ausgehoben worden waren, um Wölfe in St. Mary's of the Wolf Pits (Woolpit) zu fangen.
