    David N. Hempton is a Distinguished Service Professor and Alonzo L. McDonald Family Professor of Evangelical Theological Studies at Harvard Divinity School. He is a renowned historian of religion and political culture, especially in Britain and Ireland, and the author of several books, including Methodism: Empire of the Spirit and Evangelical Disenchantment.
