La Jolla befindet sich gut 20 km nördlich vom Zentrum von San Diego und kann mit dem Auto über die Interstate 5 in etwa einer Viertelstunde erreicht werden. Sehenswert ist vor allem der Abschnitt von den La Jolla Shores im Norden über den Cove Beach und Seal Rock bis zum Whale View Point im Süden – eine etwa 4 km lange Strecke, die man zumindest teilweise direkt am Meer abgehen kann.
