Das Großherzogtum Luxemburg ( luxemburgisch Groussherzogtum Lëtzebuerg [ ˈgʀəʊsˌhɛχtsoːktuːm ˈlətsəbuəɕ ], französisch Grand-Duché de Luxembourg [ ɡʁɑ̃ dyʃe də lyksɑ̃buʁ ]) ist ein demokratischer Staat in Form einer konstitutionellen Monarchie [6] im Westen Mitteleuropas.
Luxembourg was fully incorporated into the Third Reich in 1942, which the German government justified by ‘proclaiming’ that Luxembourgers were ethnically and linguistically German. An estimated 3,500 Jews lived in Luxembourg before the war; an estimated 1,000 to 2,500 were murdered in the Holocaust.
Luxembourgish is considered the national language of Luxembourg and also one of the three administrative languages, alongside German and French. [11] [12] In Luxembourg, 77% of residents can speak Luxembourgish, [13] and it is the primary language of 48% of the population. [14]
