Mogadishu as seen from the International Space Station. Mogadishu is situated on the Indian Ocean coast of the Horn of Africa of Northeast Africa, in the Banaadir administrative region in southeastern Somalia. The region itself is coextensive with the city and is much smaller than the historical province of Benadir.
It was fought on 3–4 October 1993, in Mogadishu, Somalia, between forces of the United States —supported by UNOSOM II —against the forces of the Somali National Alliance (SNA) and armed irregulars of south Mogadishu. The battle was part of the two-year-old Somali Civil War.
