Sleep is an American stoner / doom metal band from San Jose, California. Guitarist Matt Pike and bassist and vocalist Al Cisneros have been the only constant members throughout the band's history.
Sleep. Even during their near two-decade studio absence, SLEEP's influence loomed large over metal and stoner rock. Formed in 1990 in San Jose, CA, the power trio found immediate acclaim after the release of their debut album Volume One in 1991, and the accolades never ceased.
Sleep. Formed from the ashes of Asbestosdeath. Sleep split up in 1998; Matt Pike went on to form High on Fire, while Al Cisneros and Chris Hakius formed Om. A reunion took place in 2009, then Chris retired from music and was replaced by Neurosis drummer Jason Roeder.
