The history of Pomerania starts shortly before 1000 AD, with ongoing conquests by newly arrived Polan rulers. Before that, the area was recorded nearly 2000 years ago as Germania, and in modern times Pomerania has been split between Germany and Poland. Its name comes from the Slavic po more, which means "(land) at the sea".
Throughout the Iron Age, the people of the western Pomeranian areas belonged to the Jastorf culture, while the Lusatian culture of the East was succeeded by the Pomeranian culture, then in 150 BC by the Oksywie culture, and at the beginning of the first millennium by the Wielbark culture.
The Pomerania euroregion comprises Hither Pomerania and Uckermark in Germany, West Pomerania in Poland, and Scania in Sweden. Pomerania ( Pomorze) and other historical lands of Poland against the background of modern administrative borders (names in Polish) The German part of Pomerania.

17. Mai 2024 · Pomeranian, breed of toy dog that can be traced back—like the related Keeshond, Samoyed, and Norwegian Elkhound —to early sled-dog ancestors. The breed is named for the duchy of Pomerania, where in the early 19th century it is said to have been bred down in size from a 30-pound (13.5-kg) sheepdog.
