Bayonne liegt im französischen Teil des Baskenlandes am Zusammenfluss der Flüsse Adour und Nive. Sie ist im Westen knapp 4 Kilometer vom Atlantik (Golf von Biskaya) entfernt. Mit 52.749 Einwohnern (Stand 1. Januar 2021) ist Bayonne nach Pau die zweitgrößte Stadt des Départements Pyrénées-Atlantiques.

It's part of the triple township of BAB, Biarritz-Anglet-Bayonne, which in 2021 had a population of 309,392, and as a tourist destination it's been overshadowed by the more famous Biarritz.
