Peter Greenaway, CBE (born 5 April 1942) is a British film director, screenwriter and artist. His films are noted for the distinct influence of Renaissance and Baroque painting, and Mannerism painting in particular.

Born in Wales and raised in Chingford, Essex, Peter Greenaway originally trained as a painter in the early 1960s, until he began making experimental short films and documentaries while working as an editor and director at the British Central Office of Information.
