Etwa 30 Kilometer außerhalb von Lattakia, im hügeligen Hinterland gelegen, befindet sich Qardaha, der Geburtsort von Hafiz al-Assad. Heute befindet sich in dem kaum über 1000 Einwohner zählenden Dorf das Mausoleum des ehemaligen Staatschefs.
