Horatio A. Luro (February 27, 1901 - December 16, 1991) was a thoroughbred horse racing trainer in the United States. Luro was born in Argentina as one of nine children into the wealthy family of rancher and meat packer Adolfo Luro.
Northern Dancer. Northern Dancer (May 27, 1961 – November 16, 1990) was a Thoroughbred that, in 1964, became the first Canadian-bred horse to win the Kentucky Derby. After being retired from racing, he became one of the most successful sires of the 20th century.
Sent to Hall of Fame trainer Horatio Luro, Northern Dancer showed considerable promise as a juvenile, winning the Summer Stakes and Coronation Futurity in Canada and the Remsen Stakes in New York. He won seven of his nine starts as a 2-year-old and was named Canada’s top juvenile.
16. Dez. 1991 · Three times, Luro-trained horses won Canada’s most prestigious race, the Queen’s Plate. Luro also won the Jockey Club Gold Cup, Santa Anita Handicap, Kentucky Oaks, Woodbine Oaks (twice), Blue Grass Stakes, Florida Derby, and Prince of Wales Stakes, among others.
